MIRAGES is a music & dance film and a live event cinema performance.
It is an exploration combining arts and technologies for creating a surprising and enchanting experience. The visual world of Mirages is composed by using real-time virtual technology, wherein performers interact with motion capture animations. The result is an audience engaging immersive experience with real-time virtual staging.
MIRAGES is part of media artist & film director Marikki Hakola’s doctoral studies. The objective is to enlarge the theory of cinema to cover new cinematic features, such as real-time, interactive, tactile, performative and spatial XR forms of moving image. The study is carried out in the framework of pragmatist semiotics. At the heart of the study is experimental artistic activity to form a practical platform for evaluating theoretical ideas, concepts and findings.
